Don't be your money on it but the Apple M1X is finally coming, probably! Apple announced today an Apple event for this Monday, October 18th, 2021. Our expectation is that the upcoming Apple event will “unleash” the M1X, an upgraded version of Apple's in-house M1 silicon.
Titled simply “Unleashed,” the Apple event is a virtual broadcast starting at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
Unleashed comes a little more than a month after Apple's last product launch, which featured the iPhone 13 as well as the iPad mini and iPad models as well as the Apple Watch 7. With those product launches behind us, a major update to the MacBook lineup in preparation for the holiday shopping season is the next logical step.
How to watch Apple's October 18th event
Viewers can watch the Apple event on Apple's website at Apple.com as well as on YouTube. The live stream preview is already set up on YouTube with a very interesting URL that includes the string” exM1″. What a coincidence!
What should we expect at the Apple Unleashed event?
The rumor mill suggests that Apple is going to introduce a 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 16-inch MacBook Pro during the event. The new Apple SoC, the M1X, is a new version of the chip Apple introduced last year.
M1X is likely the next step of Apple's M1 chip which is present in other Macs. It is expected that this version will have more Thunderbolt channels and CPU and GPU cores. The M2 chip, the next-generation version, will not be released until next year.
In addition to a new processor, the new MacBooks will have other upgrades. The devices Apple will launch on Monday will mark the first major MacBook Pro overhaul in five years. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the new MacBook Pros will feature updated designs and screen technology, along with the updated SoC.
